While many may be turning their attention to DC on November 3, Michiganders have an opportunity to make a lasting impact on Michigan’s natural lands and waterways for generations.
In November, Michigan voters will be given a historic opportunity
to give the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board more discretion as long as at least 25% apiece is spent on land acquisition and park development or redevelopment, splitting the other 50% as needed.
If passed it will also put a
mechanism in place to lift the $500 million cap that was reached in 2011. It will conserve and improve Michigan’s great outdoors for all of us to enjoy – without raising our taxes. The MNRTF plays a key role in protecting our wildlife habitats,
maintaining our outdoor recreational spaces, and conserving land around our clean water sources.
As park and recreation professionals, we understand the importance of Michigan’s public spaces and the MNRTF more than anyone. That’s why mParks has joined a broad, bi-partisan coalition to educate Michiganders about the MNRTF and encourage them to
vote YES this November. The campaign is called Vote Yes for MI Water, Wildlife & Parks.
