Come Out and Play (COAP) is an eight-week program for youth, ages 6-12, designed specifically to promote physical activity in parks and on trails. As the name implies, COAP invites youth outside to be active, get fit and healthy, and to have FUN!
Developed by the Michigan Recreation and Park Association (mParks), COAP is an evidence-based program that uses step counts as a proxy for minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity. The goal is 10,000 steps to reach the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each day. COAP also measures pre/post fitness assessments to demonstrate aerobic, muscular and bonestrengthening outcomes.
