The Arab American National Museum (AANM) is the first and only museum in the United States devoted to documenting and sharing Arab American contributions that shaped the economic, political, and cultural landscapes of American life. 10:15-11:45 am | Guided Tour of the Arab American National Museum (AANM) Join us for a guided tour to discover the rich contributions of Arab Americans to American society. Led by knowledgeable guides, this immersive experience offers parks and recreation professionals valuable insights into the diverse experiences and shared narratives that have shaped our nation. From tales of resilience to moments of innovation, the tour celebrates the enduring spirit and cultural diversity of Arab American communities.

12:00 -1:15 pm | Cultivating Cultural Sensitivity: Navigating Interactions with the Arab American Community The presentation will focus on promoting cultural sensitivity in interactions with the Arab American community, drawing on insights from both Arab American perspectives and expert guidance. Participants will learn about Arab American culture and traditions, with an opportunity to engage in discussions and Q&A sessions with AANM staff to deepen their understanding and enhance inclusivity in their work.
1:15-2:00 pm | Traditional Arabic Lunch + Free Time Enjoy a traditional Arabic lunch and explore the exhibits at the AANM independently or enjoy a stroll to nearby local shops and eateries, fostering community engagement and cultural immersion.
2:00-3:00 pm | Debunking Myths: Shedding Light on Arab and Arab American Experiences Join us as we delve into the complexities of stereotypes facing the Arab and Arab American communities, fostering a deeper understanding of their origins and impacts. Through guided discussion and analysis led by the Arab American National Museum, participants will gain valuable insights to challenge stereotypes and promote inclusivity in parks and recreation settings.
3:00-3:30 pm | Let's Dance! Embracing Diversity Through the Dabke Experience Get ready to join in the fun and learn the dabke, a lively traditional folk dance celebrated across the Arab world. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or trying it out for the first time, this activity offers a chance for everyone to get moving, embrace cultural diversity, and enjoy the vibrant rhythms of the Arab world.
3:30-4:00 pm | Reflecting and Moving Forward Participants are encouraged to share their key takeaways, insights, and reflections on how they can apply their learnings to promote cultural sensitivity and inclusivity in their work within the parks and recreation field.
