There are two bills circulating in the Michigan Legislature that may have a direct impact on the integrity of the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) – Senate Bill 76 and Senate Bill 280.

  • Tell your Senator to support Senate Bill 76, as it was recommended by the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board. In a controversial move, Senator Booher has proposed amending the Bill to include additional projects not recommended by the Board. This will have serious long-term impacts on the longevity and transparency of the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund.

  • Tell your senator to oppose Senate Bill 280 in its current form. The Bill transfers a significant amount of decision-making authority from the MNRTF Board to the legislature. The legislature would have the ability to fund projects not recommended by the Board as well as mandate the types of projects the Board will recommend.  Additionally, requiring the Michigan DNR to apply to the MNRTF for land acquisition and being denied funding before using any other funding (other than the Land Exchange Facilitation Fund ) would put additional pressure on the MNRTF and limit future opportunities to utilize other funding sources.
