Active Living Through Parks
Thanks to a grant from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, mParks and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources have teamed up to promote walking as an ideal way to get started on the path to a healthy lifestyle. With the Active Living Through Parks program, Michigan residents are encouraged to use state, regional, and local parks and recreation facilities to develop a consistent walking routine - be it hiking in the woods, walking on the beach, going on a geocaching adventure, or strolling on an urban pathway. Videos were shot around the state to showcase various ways to incorporate walking. Check them out at mparks.org/activeliving!
Michigan Activity Pass
The 2015 Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) is now available! The program kicked off Memorial Day weekend around the state. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM), Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Michigan Recreation and Park Association (MRPA), and the Library Network are all partners in the Michigan Activity Pass. MI Big Green Gym partnered up with the MAP program for 2015, which expands the former "Park and Read" program to include over 100 participating cultural and historical institutions, such as the Michigan Historical Museum in Lansing. Library cardholders can print a pass from home or their library, valid for one-time entry into any Michigan state park or recreation area, and participating cultural institutions. Read more...
